Stress Management
Preventing Work Based Stress-related Psychological Disorders
Around 420,000 individuals in Britain believed that they were experiencing work-related stress at a level that was making them ill.
- 1 in 6 of all working individuals thought their job was very or extremely stressful.
- The annual incidence of work-related mental health problems in Britain in 2005, as estimated at approximately 6,400 new cases per year. However, this almost certainly underestimates the true incidence of these conditions in the British workforce.
- The most recent survey of self-reported work-related illness indicates that an estimated 195,000 people first became aware of work-related stress, depression or anxiety in the previous 12 months.
- Self-reported work-related stress, depression or anxiety account for an estimated 10.5 million reported lost working days per year in Britain.
Since Walker Vs Northumberland County Council (1995) organisations are responsible for the work related stress, under the Health and Safety Act (1974).
The Stess Management Course
3 Simple Rules have created a stress management course based on what’s being called “The Third Wave of Behavior Therapy”, the very latest in psychological techniques. The course is presented by a trained therapist in a way that’s easy to follow and offers you very practical techniques to manage the stress in your life.
The course is completely confidential and is structured to ensure that only you see the concerns that you are dealing with. No one else on the course (or in the company) will get to see anything you don’t want them to. The idea is to help you choose what you want to work on, how you want to work on it and therefore the only person who needs to know these things, is you.
The course runs over two half days.
In our first session we will be introducing some basic concepts and definitions that will allow you to understand:
- How we our bodies react in times of perceived danger
- What causes stress
- How your body responds to stress
- That stress is normal, and so is learning to cope.
With this basic understanding we will then move on to the impact of language on managing stress:
- Worry about the future and regretting the past
- How language affects the way we relate to the world outside our head.
- We will also conduct some simple exercises designed to reduce the effects of stress on your body
In the second session we will be building on the basic concepts we introduced in Session 1:
- The way we think has allowed us to shape our world.
- Allowing us to distinguish between how we think when considering our external world versus our internal world.
- Manage the conflict between our values and our current reality to reduce and remove stress from our lives.
- Introducing some tools and techniques that allow us to manage the relationship between our internal thoughts and the external world.
The course is discussion based and includes a wide range of group activates aimed at giving each participant opportunities to apply the principles discussed.
